How to make your own climbing balm.

We’re big fans of the Climb On bar and we wanted to see if we could make our own balm using locally sourced beeswax.

Sourcing all of the ingredients was pretty easy. The trickiest part of the process was getting the ratio of beeswax to oil right. We think a 1:1 ratio of beeswax to oil is a good starting point. It produces a texture similar to that of the Climb On bar.

Ingredients

  • Food Grade Beeswax
  • Apricot Kernel Oil
  • Raspberry Seed Oil
  • Oils for aroma such as Tea Tree, Lemon or Lavender
  • Silicone mold
  • Kitchen scale

Directions

  • Weigh your beeswax and create an oil mixture of the same weight. The oil mixture should be made up of mostly Apricot Kernel and Raspberry Seed oil.
  • Melt the beeswax in double-boiler and once it’s melted add the oil mixture. The melting point of beeswax is between 144 °F and 147 °F.
  • Pour the liquid into the mold and let it cool until it’s fully congealed.
