There are two issues here: First, there always have been insane party animals who play on the edge of the Darwin limit to outdo each other, even over something as silly as what flavor of child is going to be born. The fact that someone actually won the Darwin Award while partying that hard is sad.

Second there is your advocacy. If don’t want to participate in raising the next generation, then don’t. Nevertheless, our society was built around the biological imperatives of raising children. We can and should tolerate those who might not want to participate in that effort, but we shouldn’t advocate it. We do need that future generation.

If someone wants to celebrate an upcoming daughter or son, who are you to tell them that they shouldn’t? And who are you to tell them that their kid might not conform to the binary gender norms (whatever that may be)? Very few children have that problem. Let the kids tell their parents if that sort of thing manifests itself in their lives. The fact that you’re obnoxious enough to advocate for such things says to me that you have no life. Go find one.
