You keep using that term “racist” but I don’t think it means what you think it means.

Your Dad may be racist or he may not. I wouldn’t know. However judging him because he listens more to right wing news sources such as Fox News or to commentary from right wing conservatives does not qualify as being racist. Remember what the norms were in his generation. Think about what he has made an effort not to say.

Remember that you’re his son. Remember that, without realizing it, you do think a lot alike. Think of all the times you miss-spoke and said something sexist, racist or some other -ist. Can you truly say that you’ve NEVER been there? If you truly believe you have never said something offensive to someone else, then you’re lying to yourself. You are not perfect. Nobody is.

Think about what racism really is and then ask yourself if he really is racist, or perhaps you’re using that term to mean “someone who doesn’t agree with my point of view.” I suggest that you might learn a thing or two from your father. He is taking far greater strides to be a better man than you are by tearing him down.
