I had always considered myself a leftist until Bernie lost the primary. After that, my whole political ideology fell apart and I became disenchanted with the left as a party. Even now, I’m something more of a libertarian than a Republican, but since I tend to lean right I take it on to represent ethical right-wingers. However, I think the real culprit is the media.

Having leaned left socially (and not being very informed economically) for so long, I can sympathize with the lefties because I’ve been there. Many of my close friends and family still consider themselves as standing to the left of the political spectrum and I mean no disrespect to them or any individual who acts with good intentions. In fact, I suspect that the left and the right would both benefit from looking at intent instead of expecting “political correctness.” I think we’d find that most people want to come at difficult situations with a compromise in mind and with everyone’s best interests at heart, but instead we see media (on both sides!) filled with hateful speech and propaganda.

I do admit that I have a bit of a personal chip on my shoulder, if you want to call it that, when it comes to Elizabeth Warren. Now I know that Snopes is a bit unreliable at times, but they claim that she “put herself on the “Minority Law Teacher” list as Native American in the faculty directory of the Association of American Law Schools” at UPenn Law School, and “that Harvard Law School at one time promoted Warren as a Native American faculty member.” While this doesn’t really provide her a significant/obvious financial or professional gain, it is rooted in Warren’s openness of possessing fractional Native American blood. I don’t dispute the validity of anyone’s heritage but she’s much more representative of European heritage than Native American, yet she has no problem using that (or allowing others to use that) to seem unique, or inspiring, or maybe even attempt to represent minorities that fell flat. She once again used race to benefit her personal gain (or entertainment while filibustering, I’m not sure which) by reading a letter from Coretta Scott King regarding Jeff Sessions. It was used to filibuster and waste time to prevent the appointment of someone she does not agree with. However, the letter in question is from decades ago regarding how she felt his ruling of a case might embolden the wrong spirit in the times of Civil Rights. While I agree that racial tensions are high in America — and the globe at large — I would argue that the current era is not comparable to a time of restricted voting rights, segregated schools, and bans on interracial marriages. I don’t say that to downplay current efforts for more equality (I want to make that clear) but I do want to stress that the impact the ruling of a particular case made in light of the Civil Rights era may not be applicable in current year. The letter was well written, influential, and aided in the decision to prevent Sessions from federal judgeship — and possibly rightfully so, at the time. But it’s not 1986 anymore, this isn’t that case, and King never accused Sessions of being inherently evil or racist. That said, using her letter to further her own political agenda is just another example of Warren, and the left throughout time, to use minorities to advance the Democratic agenda. In fact, even community organizer Saul Alinsky discusses manipulating minorities to further the agenda in his book Rules for Radicals, and went on to influence the minds of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. So it lies less in representing minorities and more pimping them out.

I really, truly appreciate you taking the time to write such a thorough response to my article. I was very apprehensive before posting it and it makes me feel like I did the right thing by being able to discuss things openly like this. It really does mean so much that you took the time to read my opinion on this and I appreciate your contribution.
