Tell us about yourself — what’s your story?

I’m from Tacoma, WA, and moved to Seattle when I started at the University of Washington. I majored in English Literature. If you told me then that I would make a career in B2B tech, I wouldn’t have believed you (I’m not even sure I would’ve known what that was).

Nevertheless, I’ve worked at a small “25-year-old startup,” as well as enterprise B2B tech companies. I’ve now been on the marketing team at FLEXE for a little more than two years.

The FLEXE model is pragmatic, yet somehow new. Someday, people will wonder how warehousing and fulfillment ever existed without the on-demand category.

What’s your role at FLEXE?

Senior Content Marketing Manager. I am responsible for managing our one-to-many communications, particularly across our website, social, and advertising channels.

Why did you choose to work for FLEXE?

The FLEXE model is pragmatic, yet somehow new. Someday, people will wonder how warehousing and fulfillment ever existed without the on-demand category.

From leadership to our newest employees, people are excited to be here. This was true when I started and is still true 2+ years later. From a career standpoint, I was really eager to work on a small and nimble, but growing, team where I could learn quickly and make an impact.

At FLEXE, we are defining an entirely new category; in marketing, our job is to make sure the world knows about it.

What excites you most about the logistics industry?

Every person is a consumer, and logistics is the backbone to the success of every transaction. Retailers and brands have to innovate their logistics strategies to really win customers. We’re helping drive that innovation in warehousing and fulfillment. Not only is that important for businesses, but also for consumers. How boring would it be if Amazon was our only option?

What makes being on your team at FLEXE great?

At FLEXE, we are defining an entirely new category; in marketing, our job is to make sure the world knows about it. That’s a unique position to be in. We get to be creative and have the liberty to explore new initiatives, sometimes fail, but get up and try again.

FLEXE as a whole is an incredibly supportive community. My dad died earlier this year — making it my toughest year yet, but FLEXE gave me the support I needed. I am forever grateful for the time I was able to spend with him.

How do you make time for family and loved ones outside of work?

My family is nearby, so I get to see them a lot. My friends would also tell you that I love to talk on the phone, to their dismay. No one does that anymore.

I’ve learned a lot from how my parents approached their careers. As a result, I try to remain teachable and set high expectations for myself.
My mom and I recently did a 200-mile bike trip through the Netherlands before stopping in Iceland on the way home.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I don’t know if people will be surprised by this, but I sure as hell was: I was named “Morgan” for my German heritage and my last name is German, but according to 23andMe, I’m not actually German at all.

Whose work style do you admire and want to emulate?

My parents’. I am fortunate to come from a family that’s driven and passionate. My mom has been in real estate for 40+ years and is still excited to go to work every day; my step-dad held a wide range of roles from Creative Director at Cole & Weber to Head of Comms for Sound Transit to Deputy State Auditor; my dad went back to college at 48-years old and spent the rest of his career teaching middle school special education. I’ve learned a lot from how they’ve approached their careers. As a result, I try to remain teachable and set high expectations for myself.

“Morgan brings an immense value to the marketing team at FLEXE. She cares deeply about the company and is always focused on ensuring we successfully communicate our value to the market through compelling and credible content.” — Tom McMahon, Senior Product Marketing Manager, on working with Morgan

What are your hobbies outside of work?

I do photography and watercolor outside of work. Last September, I got to photograph a private showcase where Lindsey Buckingham was the headliner, and in the past 10 years, I’ve had a number of small art shows throughout Seattle. I also love to travel, but who doesn’t?

Lindsey Buckingham (formerly of Fleetwood Mac) backstage before his private performance.
Painting faces is incredibly difficult. Teaching myself one attempt at a time.

What organizations are important to you and why?

In the last few years, I’ve had the opportunity to support NFFTY, the National Film Festival for Talented Youth. Everyone should check it out! Based in Seattle. I also value the work that Ladies Get Paid is doing. They are dedicated to closing the wage gap by driving awareness through education, events, and shared experiences.

If you had your own personal warehouse and could fill it with any one thing, what would it be?

Like, what do I want to hoard? Plants.

Tom McMahon, Senior Product Marketing Manager, on working with Morgan:

“Morgan brings immense value to the marketing team at FLEXE. She cares deeply about the company and is always focused on ensuring we successfully communicate our value to the market through compelling and credible content.

Her sharp wit and sense of humor makes her fun to work with and despite working tirelessly on her own duties and tasks, she is always on-hand to help others triage and solve the problems they may be facing.”
