The Ice Cream Tulip is a newly superior variety of tulip that was artificially cultivated and introduced to China in 2005. This tulip is a single-headed variety, which is nearly equivalent to the size of two regular tulips. The folded petals are similar to those of peonies, earning it the nickname “Peony Tulip.”

The bulb of the Ice Cream Tulip is papery, with few hairs on the inner surface of the apex and base. It has 3–5 leaves, which are linear-lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate in shape.

The flower is solitary and terminal, nearly twice the size of a regular tulip flower, and when blooming, it particularly resembles a scoop of ice cream.
