Life As an Actor
My favorite job was signing a contract for musical theatre. At first I started off as an under study, (back up for the main actor if something were to interfere.) and I was more than excited. In fact I was so excited that I made sure I went to every play rehearsal even if I wasn’t needed that day.
Backstory: as a kid I always loved acting and wanted to become a professional actor until I began to let life and friends distract me from my passion. Definitely my personal decision, and when I look back I would never change a thing for it was the life experiences that assists with me portraying a character now.
I worked for/represented by Solomon Rain Presents, and IKAN4U. We worked on everything for a good 7 months due to this being a big production with lights, dancers, and the whole shebang! My responsibilities were simply to know my lines verbatim, uphold artistic integrity, get along with the other cast mates and be on standby just in case they need me. My overly extroverted, theatrical personality made it easy to become likeable by the directors, cast, and producer. In fact so likeable I ended up moving up the ranks and snagged onto a lead role. Which they trusted me to learn all the lines within a two week time frame. The pressure was on and I almost folded. The director had a one on one talk with me and explained why I need to do this, and why I’m the right guy for this role. That right there sparked a fire inside me and I gave the best performance I possibly could, and received positive feedback from many audience members.
It’s hard for me to say what I liked most about the play, because I don’t like acting. I love acting, and what I loved most about doing the play was the bond I formed with cast mates; to add more it was really cool knowing that we were bringing someones vision to life on the big stage.
Though, enjoying the experience, I can say many lessons were learned, but the most important lesson was to always believe in myself no matter what the circumstances may be. Always be bold, be daring, and go for it all with every fiber of your being. We get one life, and when doors begin to open up, we need to walk through them like we knew this was meant to happen.
