It has been a year of the pandemic

Normal life for most people changed dramatically over the past year with the COVID pandemic becoming a global crisis. The news was dominated with stories related to the coronavirus and the pandemic. It has seemed like a nightmare to many people.

The United States was hit very hard with deaths rising each day from the dreaded virus. The number of people who died in the USA from COVID is over half a million people by April 2021.

Looking at the number of deaths from COVID in Taiwan, it reported ten deaths as…

Washington, D.C. generally has fairly mild weather

If there is a snowstorm in Washington, D.C., the city generally shuts down. Government agencies close their offices, and many businesses close as well. They do not usually get a lot of really bad snowstorms during the winter months, but the snow does come. Sometimes other weather problems come.

Tornadoes can hit the area. There have been several notable tornadoes over the years. There was a tornado on April 6, 2017, which started in Arlington, Virginia, and crossed the Potomac River into Washington, D.C. It did some damage.

Another tornado in the area…

Doctors are working to keep people well

A television commercial I have seen lately is one put out by a local hospital. They admonish people to visit health care professionals if they are having any symptoms which may be health risks. They indicate that people are afraid of the COVID pandemic so they are avoiding medical care for other issues. They are telling people to go to the doctor and get checked out because they could be at risk for heart attacks or strokes if they neglect getting medical care if some warning signs are there.

Many people watched the…

The new administration is trying to bring unity

The United States of America currently has a multitude of problems. President Joe Biden wanted to run for President in order to bring unity back to the country. He thought he was the person who could do it after a very divisive time under Donald Trump.

The election was extremely controversial with Trump and his followers saying that the election was stolen from them. They tried to get results overturned in some key battleground states. Other Republicans had won in those states even though Trump did not. Then the Capitol in Washington…

You will see a LOT of monuments

One of the most amazing places to visit in the world is Washington, D.C. The capital city of the United States of America is rich in history and beauty. The area is very picturesque as are all the buildings, museums, and monuments which dot the landscape of the entire area.

There are many government buildings which are worth visiting. You can arrange tours at the White House, the Capitol, the Supreme Court, the National Archives, the Library of Congress, and all types of government agencies. You can learn a lot about American history…

Sibling rivalry does not have to continue

When children are young, sibling rivalry is a common occurrence. Brothers and sisters will fight amongst themselves. There may be competition in several areas. They will not always be friends with each other.

Friends come and go in life, but your family will always be your family. Members of your family could and should be among your best friends throughout your lifetime. Even though some parents and siblings become estranged from each other for periods of time, they are still family. …

A terrible crime happened in Utah in 1974

Years ago when Ted Bundy was becoming known as a serial killer who tortured and killed many young women, I read about him in the newspapers. I was not living in Utah at that time, but I saw that some of the people that Bundy killed were in Utah.

After my wife and I moved to Virginia and I was working for nonprofits in Washington, D.C., we became friends with a family there who were from Utah as we were. The wife talked about her older sister Debra (Debi) who had been…

Don’t let anyone tell you different

Every person should feel important and valuable

Life will have many ups and downs. There will be problems, trials, obstacles, hardships, and failures in everyone’s life. No one can escape the fact that life will not easy. It may seem like smooth sailing at times, but problems will come. There will also be successes in life.

Emily Dickinson was a poet who lived from 1830 to 1886. One of the poems she wrote is: “I’m Nobody! Who are You?”

I’m Nobody! Who are you!

Are you — Nobody — too?

Then there’s a pair of us!

Don’t tell! they’d advertise…

Ladies out for a walk together on a special walking path

The winter is almost over. Spring is officially here although some winter weather may still come in certain areas. The grass is getting greener and the blossoms are blooming in all their glory. It is time to get out and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. Nature could be said to be at her finest in the spring.

There is a street just below my house in Salt Lake City, Utah, which is open to just one way traffic for cars. One side of the road is only for…
