imho. Persona is used to categorize user so they can be targeted for marketing campaigns or alerts. Role defines what capabilities the person is allowed, via permissions, to do within the application. So a VP can perform the role of application administrator but if he/she loses that role that doesn’t mean we stop sending VP level marketing and alerts to them.
Personas(non application capabilities) and Roles(application capabilities)represent different attributes of a user.
