Bangalore International Airport

Bangalore International Airport also known as Kempegowda International Airport is located in Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka. The airport is located about 40 km north near a city known as Devenahalli. The operations of this Airport is managed by BIAL i.e Bangalore International Airport Limited. This Airport is named after the founder of Bangalore, Kempe Gowda. Also this airport has become Karnataka’s first fully solar powered airport.

Kempegowda International Airport is also the thirst busiest airport in the nation after Delhi and Mumbai. The fact one should know about this airport is that it has earned the gold rating in LEED India from the Indian Green Building Council for being Eco friendly, energy efficient, etc. The code this Airport holds is BLR.
It operates a single terminal either for international and domestic flights is another different facts about this airport. This airport accommodate more than 22.2 million passengers a year.

Terminal 1

This terminal supports both international as well as domestic operations it can accommodate 20 million passengers on annual basis. They can find the baggage and the check in recover on the lower floor, whereas all the departure gates are on the upper floor.

If we talk about the gates, there are twelve gates in all. 1,2,7,8,9,15 are the domestic gates and 16,17,18,21–22,22–24 and 25–26 are the international ones. 25–26 serve the Airbus A380, which is world’s largest passenger aircraft.

Terminal 2

Terminal 2 is known to be a new expansion at the airport. It is built under the second phase of the airport. This terminal is designed by American firm known as Skidmore, Owings and Merrill which supports two phases.

Lost and Found Department:

Items found are kept for a period of three months from the date of deposit. Things like cheque books, passbooks, Bank Cards are disposed of after 72 hours and perishable items will be disposed within 24 hours.

P2 and P3 support parking are with slots for electric cars

Transportation

If we talk about the BLR airport transportation, one has the following options:

BY ROAD:

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation facilitate one with the bus transportation to major major sections of the city. It functions using a fleet of Volvo B7RLE buses.

BY RAIL:

A Namma Metro link between the airport and Bangalore city is planned. A high speed rail link was also previously considered and went far obtaining approval from the government. Unfortunately the project was scrapped due to high costs and the lack of stops.
