Taking the guesswork out of airfares.

We’re excited to announce a powerful, new API that enables developers to deliver key insights on airfare dynamics, sellout risk, and availability of better deals. We think our next-gen fare analytics will help our dev partners attract, sustain, and better engage their user base.

Let’s have a look at the API’s capabilities, some development ideas, and a peek at what we’ve got in store for the near future.

One simple query. A treasure trove of insight.

Simply feed us a flight number and departure date, and FLYR can provide you with a wealth of data.

- Predict whether the current low fare available for the flight will increase.
- Determine the sellout risk associated with all fares available for the flight.
- Assess whether a better deal might become available during the period.
- Provide a one-word FLYR recommendation for the flight: Buy or Wait.

Fare Increase
We will generate the probability of a fare increase, using the lowest available fare on the queried date.

Sellout Risk
The risk that the queried flight will sell out completely, regardless of price.

Rival Deals
A powerful cross-comparison that generates the likelihood that similar flights at the same or higher price might get cheaper

Buy or Wait
We use the above parameters to weigh your options, and deliver a dead-simple recommendation:
- “Buy”, when the user is in a great position to lock in their fare.
- “Wait”, when the user should keep searching for better deals in the coming days.

To make sure our predictions are more than just “guesses”, we keep our data fresh, but it’s important to keep in mind some trade-offs.

The API currently supports over 100,000 flights on 440 domestic routes in the US, departing over the next 30 days. At this time, all major airlines are supported, except Southwest and a handful of American Airlines routes.

Our predictions are effective for seven days following the date of the query.

Building the future of booking flights

Our tools can be put to awesome use — either to improve existing services or to create completely new user experiences for travelers. But we need your help (and creativity).

Existing services:

Providing real-time fare predictions to travelers is a powerful way to improve upon a wide range of services in the travel industry:

Flight alerts — Drive conversions from flight alert subscribers by providing hyper-relevant deals likely to occur over the next few days.

Shopping cart abandonment — Before customers leave your site, let them know that their flight is very likely to increase in price over the next few days. By squashing fare uncertainty, they can be confident that they’re nabbing a great deal.

Off-site re targeting — insert our airfare predictions into your re targeting ads to help drive back traffic to your site.

New experiences:

We think our data will open up a new world of possibilities for the travel -booking industry. Here are just a few that we came up with:

Fare audits — Double-check your travel agent’s recommendations in real time.

Games/promotions — Ask expert flyers to see if they can beat our accuracy rates.

Visualize — Develop visual ways to display and track our predictions.

A look at what’s coming up:

We’re working hard to build up and enhance our API capabilities. Here’s a peek at our pipeline over the coming months:

Expanding airline and route coverage. Query us by route instead of flight number (“Will the average fare for all flights from SFO to JFK on my travel date increase over the next seven days?”).

More granular predictions as we dig deeper into flight and fare data.
Continuous improvement of prediction accuracy

We’ll also keep our ears open to our developer partners — let us know if there are some must-have airfare data points that you would love to see!
