Knock Knock Knocking on Netflix’s Door

Netflix inked a deal with Adam Sandler to star in and produce four films to be available exclusively on Netflix worldwide.

A lot of people saw this as a shock or another turning point in the disruption of traditional Hollywood. And while it may be the latter, I don’t see that as a shock at all. It appears more elementary. Sandler, who has made his share of great movie has been making mostly theatrical and critical duds of late. It only makes sense for him to go somewhere that will support his creative outlet financially, while his star power can still kick open a door and garner him the type of deal he probably struck for himself.

The first movie under the pact could arrive as soon as 2015. Sandler’s Happy Madison Prods. will work with Netflix to develop the four films — presumably comedies, although the genres aren’t set in stone. The Netflix deal does not cover Sandler’s current studio film commitments.
