Calligraffiti futurism
A modern NFT trend is connected with calligraphy in some way… but not a simple one. How does the concept of calligraphic futurism appear?
Pokras Lampas — an artist, who made a name for himself long before the NFT boom in 2021: his works hang on the walls and roofs of various buildings. But apart from creating murals, he also has contracts with global brands Lamborghini, Hyundai, Nike, Adidas, IKEA.
The artist began to earn his living by designing logos for companies, tattoo designs and various workshops. With time, what began as a street art hobby evolved into modern art with a concept — calligraphic futurism.
Pokras himself coined the term. It is a medium through which the artist reflects on what will happen to different cultures in the future; how globalisation itself will change the human script and what that will lead to.
Speaking about NFT, Pokras was one of the first who saw the new phenomenon in perspective and decided to create his own token. Just one day before the stunning sale of Everydays: The First 5000 Days, Pokras released a digital version of his work on the Foundation platform at the Chirkey hydroelectric power plant in the form of NFT. Its starting price was 1 ETH. A day later, on March 11, 2021, the artwork Transition was sold for 16 ETH ($28.7k at ETF), making it the first crypto-art piece in Pokras’ portfolio.
The most famous projects sold so far are the NFT duck for the blockchain game Waves Ducks and the “Calligraphy Manifesto” for the Binance platform.
