Gerald Griggs, the vice president of the anti-American NAACP in Atlanta threatened the NFL with a protest at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on September 17th at the Falcons home opening game if Kaepernick was not signed by a team soon.

Griggs in an, attempt to gain public attention, contends that the NFL is punishing Kaepernick for his protesting of the National Anthem. Griggs’ assertion is based solely on conjecture as there is no actual supporting empirical evidence.

The unhinged Griggs raged to Fox 5 in Atlanta, “There will be no football in the state of Georgia if Colin Kaepernick is not on a training camp roster and given an opportunity to pursue his career. This is not a simple request. This is a statement. This is a demand.”

Ironically, the NAACP is an organization that claims to support equal opportunity for the black community. The NFL already disproportionately pays millions of dollars to blacks who comprise 70 percent of the players in its various organizations. The NAACP hate-group tactics requires that it simply goes after an issue due to its high profile instead of actually finding true examples of discrimination.

There is no data to support that Kaepernick’s lack of job offers has to do with his race, which is what the hate group typically claims to represent. While the NFL may not want his grand-standing, it is not discrimination for the organization to prohibit it. His record as a player is, according to some, “okay”, but there may be questions as to how well he gets along with team management.

His actual decision to opt-out last fall had to do with the team’s recent management change. The teams new G.M., John Lynch, would have cut Kapernick, according to an in interview on NBC Sports “Pro Football Talk”. Lynch said that it had to do with what Coach Kyle Shanahan wanted for the team based on his coaching successes in Atlanta.

Lynch said in the interview, “So I don’t want to characterize it as he made a decision to leave here. We both sat down and under that current construct of his deal, it was a big number. [Coach] Kyle [Shanahan] had a vision for what he wanted to do, and one thing I think Kyle was very clear and I think Colin appreciated, is that Kyle has an idea of how he’d play with Colin Kaepernick.”

But there is possibly another reason for the high-profile player’s inability to find a team to play on. The player’s anti-American display turned many Americans, who simply want to watch sports without political involvement, away from the NFL.

According to a Rasumssen pole in October of last year, 32% of Americans have turned away from the NFL as a result of the Black Lives Matters protests by the players. The poll showed that people are not watching the NFL games to get involved in politics, but instead to be entertained. It is likely that the NFL understands this and Kaepernick’s grand-standing may be something that the football organization is attempting to distance itself from.

The sports network, ESPN, since becoming increasingly political in its content, has experienced a sharp decline in their viewership. In a recent Market Watch report, the sports giant has steadily lost subscriptions since 2010. The numbers are the lowest since 2005. The Disney-owned company has seen a consistent decline in advertising revenue as a result. Some investors blame the “cord-cutting” from cable networks.

There are several possible reasons why customers may be ditching their cable subscriptions, one of which may be related to the decline in NFL viewership. While the decline at ESPN has happened over the last seven years, the rate actually took a sharp turn in 2013. Some speculate that this coincides directly with the increase in political engagement on the sports network.

As with the NFL, people who wish to be entertained by ESPN are now inundated with political reporting that ranges from domestic violence to Black Lives Matter rhetoric. This type of reporting contradicts the “American Pass-Time” idea associated with sports.

The United States has become polarized on many levels, but one thing that “both sides” could always agree on was sports. Regardless of political ideologies, people could always talk about sports “around the water-cooler.”

If the NAACP has anything to do with it, sports will be politicized and turn even more people away from it. But the NFL and ESPN alike rely on revenue paid by advertiser and or fans trough various means. Less viewership equates to less advertising revenue, less subscriptions, and less merchandise sold.

While the progressive hate-group, NAACP alleges to support blacks, the organizations could be instrumental in the tearing down of opportunities provided to young black athletes. As the NFL looses continued viewership and revenue due to the progressive behavior being foisted upon the sports organization, it will too become difficult to justify hiring new athletes who would benefit greatly.

In effect, the NAACP would be instrumental in destroying opportunity for the young blacks it says it is trying to support. The same holds true with ESPN. While the sports reporting organization claims to support minorities, it’s own actions that drive viewers away could have a more devastating impact. ESPN’s is already losing viewers, and could also possibly drive people away from sports altogether.

After all, sports for many, is considered an escape from the daily rigors of life, including politics. It could well be that the recent politicizing of sports could make some people not want to even watch at all. They may choose to spend their leisure time engaging in activities that don’t involve politics in any way. The NAACP declined to do an interview.
