I think the issue here lies deeply in the Ego of everyone:

Why do you need a house + pool immediately?

Why do you need an MBA immediately?

Why do you need a car and have to live in a central place?

As you said at the end people are living with less 10K maybe sleeping in their car whereas others do naive, stupidly things. I think this shows really that people might be great engineers and are hired by big companies but are neither smart nor human.
