The problem is that drinking (very specifically red wine) can really reduce stress levels and make one live longer (if one is inclined to stress). On the other hand, keeping the right balance is very difficult for the addictive personality. I’d suggest less focusing on quitting drinking and more focus on athletic achievement. It will slow the drinking radically without the turning to sugar/eating which Jenn noted.
