Come write for us! We pay!

Are you a writer either living with a health condition or who has otherwise been personally touched by one? If so, Folks wants to publish you.

Who we are

Folks is an daily online magazine dedicated to telling the stories of remarkable people who refuse to be defined by their health issues. By sharing the experiences of these individuals, we hope to change people’s notions about what it means to be ‘normal’.

Editorially independent, Folks is sponsored and published by PillPack. Part of our mission at PillPack is to create healthcare experiences that empower people. We believe that people are more than just their conditions, and managing health is an important part of everyone’s life.

What we’re looking for

Here are some examples of essays we like from our archives:

When Lupus Happens To You

How The Beatles Helped Save Me From Brain Cancer

Diabetes Made My Son Internet Famous

What Do You Say To Someone With Cancer?

There’s No Such Thing As A Free Lung

What we pay

We pay $400 for the exclusive publishing rights to your essay for a one-year period.

How to pitch

Send us an email at In your email, tell us a bit about yourself, including what condition you’d like to write about and where you’ve been published before, if applicable. Then, in just a couple paragraphs, tell us what you want your essay is about, and what you want readers to take away from it. If we’re interested, we’ll be in touch, generally within a couple of weeks.

If you have already written your essay, it’s okay to attach it along with your pitch, but your email should still contain a strong summary. Do not send us that have been previously published elsewhere.
