Which Media Outlets Can You Trust?

It’s hard to know these days. However, I’ve compiled a list of which media outlets are trustworthy and objective, and which ones spread propaganda or alternative facts.

Non-Trustworthy Media:

Fox News:

This one’s pretty obvious, but for those who perhaps don’t know about the propagandistic “news” that comes out of Fox News, here it is. Fox News is essentially propaganda for the GOP. Fox News constantly reports made-up or taken out of context stories, and mis-leading or also made up statistics to favor whatever narrative the GOP wants the public to believe at the moment. But what’s really scary is their influence. Fox News is the most watched cable news network, ever. And to make it more scary, Trump happens to love Fox News, and on several occasions, has repeated Fox News narratives right after airing. I would put this media outlet as the most untrustworthy of them all.

CNN, MSNBC, CBS, etc… (the corporate media):

Yes, pretty much all of cable news is covered at this point. These news networks aren’t free from alternative facts and misleading or made-up stories either. For example, the entire democratic primary season, these networks constantly were biased towards Hillary Clinton, so much so they went to making up stories at some points, but mostly they just put existing stories out of context or reported them in a mis-leading way. A couple of examples would be how they reported the total lie of chairs being thrown at the Nevada democratic caucus as fact, and how they reported Bernie supporters as being sexist for throwing money over Hillary Clinton’s motorcade, when it was actually trying to show how corrupt she was. Her motorcade was on its way to a fundraiser where it cost up to $300,000 to get in. And the biggest lie these news networks reported was the infamous line: “Russia hacked the election”. Could it have happened? Yes. Is there evidence? No. And as long as there isn’t any confirmed evidence, it shouldn’t be reported as fact. If you want trustworthy media outlets, cable is not the way to go.

The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Daily Beast, etc… (the online corporate media):

And now we move on to the internet. Unfortunately, the corporate media has found itself here as well, with exactly the same problems coming with it, stories reported in a mis-leading way, extreme bias towards the establishment, and sometimes totally made up stories as well. A couple of examples would be the huge amount of mis-leading anti-Bernie articles The Washington Post reported in one night ( http://fair.org/home/washington-post-ran-16-negative-stories-on-bernie-sanders-in-16-hours/ ), plus the constant, false Bernie-bro narrative also pushed by corporate cable news. Even on the internet, you have to be careful.

Trustworthy Media:

The Huffington Post:

Only rarely do they get something wrong. Other than that, it’s a semi-open site that allows opposing view points to publish on the same platform. And it was one of the only “mainstream” sites to not constantly go along the narratives of the corporate media.

Democracy Now!:

A combination of article and video format, Democracy Now! is also a trustworthy media outlet with differing views as well, with the hosts rarely being biased and with the guests all being able to speak their mind. It also reports on stories other outlets rarely report on regularly, including recent DAPL events, the crisis in the middle east, and other even lesser-known stories.

YouTube:

There are a number of trustworthy, objective or unbiased outlets on YouTube, here are some examples:

My conclusion from this is that the internet will be the ultimate tool against Trump and his friends, but also the ultimate tool against the inaccurate, corporate media. If we didn’t have the internet, we would be in a very different situation in terms of fact-checking, and reliable sources. So with the ever increasing need for an accurate news feed, I encourage anyone out there who takes news from the corporate media to think twice, and consider additionally listening to or switching completely to the internet for more reliable, trustworthy news.
