After hearing from somebody who lives in Cambridge that Ottinge Court Farm does ‘the only yoghurt that has ever compared to yoghurt in Tibet’, I obviously had to find out what it was all about.

So the shop here only opens twice a week so you cannot just rock up at anytime. That said, they do have a milk vending machine that is open 7 days a week where you can also get eggs in a different vending machine and fresh veg with an honesty box. I was pleasantly surprised that this was being very well used with people in the local area turning up to fill their own bottles up. The price of the milk in particular is more expensive than the supermarkets but less expensive than a milk bottle delivery service. What I would say though is that this milk has not been pasteurised yet seems to last longer than the stuff in the supermarkets. SO MUCH MORE DELICIOUS AND LUXURIOUS TOO.

The shop is really just a fancy shed but it is very sweet. It was so much more than I expected with both meat from a very local farm and seasonal vegetables from a farm in Thanet. If you cannot grow it in this country at this time, it will not be there. There is also bread, preserves and that divine mutschli cheese. This is a swiss cheese that is made on site and can you buy this in mild, medium, mature or very mature (which is more like a parmesan). There are also flavoured yoghurts, creams, creme fraiche and eggs. You really could do your whole weekly shop in here. The price all seems extremely reasonable too.

The farmer is a real character and clearly very passionate about his farm. We talked for a long while about the history of the area and the decline of butchers/greengrocers and farms. It’s a real shame but Ottinge Court is standing strong. It’s also trying to use technology to bring in additional revenue machines which is terrific to see. He proudly told me that he had imported the milk vending machine from Italy and that this was the first one in the UK.

Please go. It’s an absolute gem of a shop and it’s location is beautiful. Oh and the yoghurt was bloody delicious!
