5 Tips To Become The Best Version Of Yourself.
I believe the greatest set of people that have ever been in our society were never version of someone else, they were themselves. If we look closer we will notice that successful people like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and other great achievers share some common habits, like using their time wisely and commit to learning new things every single day. We often tend to say we want to become like this person because they are successful, but the truth is you might become similar to them in one way or the other but you will never become like them. This is because as humans we are engineered differently. From the bases that can be proven from our genes. This explains uniqueness in our fingerprints, Irises, voices, retinas and more. To keep things simple let’s go straight in and understand the mysteries.
- Time management: Becoming the best version of ourselves involve using our time more effectively to do what we love, this doesn’t only make us more productive but also makes us happy so we can spend our future doing more things we want to do. Time is something we can’t keep and once it is lost we can’t get it back either. Therefore the best option left is simply to spend time. Knowing how to spend it is what makes a difference. Time is more valuable than money, we can get more money but we can never get more time. So why do we waste it, knowing we can’t get more of it? Instead of wasting our time on meaningless things we instead have to use it to learn new things or acquire new skills. Learning new things will make us better people and will greatly change our ways of perceiving life.
- What we think about ourselves vs what people think about us: Having the right mentality is what makes us best, believing in ourselves is one of the greatest achievements in our lives. if we don’t believe in ourselves, then who will believe in us? We are often trapped by what people think about us. As long as we are trapped by what people think about us, we will never find answers to the real questions of life. We will spend our time living to their expectations without exploring the great potentials we have in us. As Jim Rohn said “If you don’t design your life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.” I’ll like to emphasis on this “What people think about you is none of your business, what you think about yourself is that which matters”. Don’t live your life becoming someone to impress the person or the people around you, because at the end you will simply be lost and forgotten once they discover you were faking it. Be yourself, love yourself and the results will come. Remember this; “everyone one of us is designed for accomplishment, engineered for success, and endowed with the seeds of greatness” said Zig Ziglar. We simply have to look for this something that we are passionate about, and this lead us to the next point.
- Unlocking and following what we are passionate about: In order to unlock our passions in life I recommend the following questions
What am I good at?
What do I love?
What does the world need? And
How do I get paid for it?
For me, those 4 help us unlock our passions and this is what we call “IKIGAI”, the Japanese formula for happiness, or simply “The reason of being”. Keep this in mind “your passion is for you, and your purpose is for others”. Your passion makes you happy but when you use your passion to make a difference in someone else’s life, that’s a service, or better still a purpose.
One of the greatest things we can do in our lifetime is following our dreams. As Wayne Dyer said “Passion is a feeling that tells you: this is the right thing to do. Nothing can stand in my way. It doesn’t matter what anyone else says. This feeling is so good that it can’t be ignored. I’m going to follow my bliss and act upon this glorious sensation of joy.” I love this quote because it teaches us how to stand firm for what we are passionate about and in other to stand firm we need a strategy that will always keep that fire burning because a dream without a plan is just a wish. Therefore the point here is to take action instead of wishing. You might fail many times but remember failure isn’t fatal but failure to change might be — John Wooden.
4. Self-Awareness: The easiest form of self-awareness is at the physical level, that which almost everyone can notice. We often neglect the other forms of awareness which are the most essential in our lives. At the mental level self-awareness is knowing what type of people we like to be with, knowing who helps us grow and who drains us. At the Spiritual level, things get more complex which we won’t talk about (It’s a whole different dimension). The lesson we should take home is learning how to control things like our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions because if we don’t control them, they will instinctively control us without our consent and the result might be below our expectations or even devastating.
Lastly
5. Don’t compare yourself to others:
Comparing ourselves to others is simply a waste of time which inevitably leads to suffering. One of my favorite motivational speaker, Jay shetty said
Everything in life happens according to our time or better still our clock. We may look at some of our friends and think that they are ahead of us, or feel some are behind, but everything happens at their own pace. They have their own time and clock and so do we. Be patient, don’t let anyone rush you with their timelines.
For me this is the most important, if we can create meaningful, purposeful, and full-filling lives for ourselves and learn how to use that to make an impact and a difference in the lives of others then that will make us successful and better people tomorrow. To conclude don’t let other people’s metrics of success to define yours.
If you went through till the end, Congratulations
I’ll challenge you to begin learning something new, something you are passionate about or better still focus on that dream that keeps you up day and night. If you found this interesting don’t forget to give it a clap or more.
