The AMSA Mentorship Program Powered by for[MD]

by Greg Chang, MHA, Cofounder, for[MD]

I’m excited to announce that for[MD] is partnering with the American Medical Student Association (AMSA), the oldest and largest student-led organization for physicians-in-training, to launch the AMSA Mentorship Program!

The AMSA Mentorship Program, powered by for[MD], will offer AMSA’s U.S. medical student members direct access to practicing physician mentors across the country and from varying backgrounds. These physician mentors are experts in key areas of interest deemed fundamentally important to medical students and will address topics such as preparing for the match, succeeding in residency, wellness strategies, tests and rotations and career planning.

Medical students routinely seek direct access to practicing physicians — recognizing they have invaluable experience, knowledge and insight to share that can help them navigate medical school and their career path. Through this program, students will be able to engage in private, group discussions about topics and issues not addressed in medical school. Additionally, they will have the unique opportunity to connect one-on-one with physician mentors and dive deeper into specific areas of interest or receive guidance in a protected environment.

These physicians-in-training are already making critical decisions that will influence their careers, patient care and the entire health care ecosystem. The goal of the AMSA Mentorship Program is to equip these future physicians with the support and guidance they need to maximize their time in medical school and make better, informed decisions.

To enhance this experience for students, we’re working with organizations that will offer them access to related content, such as the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Go Heels!), the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Osmosis, CHEST, ACOEM, and many more. We’d also be remiss if we didn’t mention our sister site MedPage Today, as they have been instrumental in making this partnership possible and its overall success.

We are excited to partner with AMSA to help fulfill its mission to ultimately advance the profession of health care. Beginning in April, AMSA U.S. medical student members will be able to participate in this exclusive Mentorship Program through their private for[MD] network.

AMSA members can preregister here and be entered into our March Mentor Madness contest for Amazon gift cards. U.S. Medical students who are not AMSA members but want to participate in the Mentorship Program may join here and will receive a $25 discount on your AMSA membership upon registration with code MPT25.

We’d like to thank all the physicians who have already volunteered to serve as mentors, as well as those who will be joining as future mentors, to guide the next generation of physicians.

How can you get involved? Physicians and organizations interested in serving as a mentor or making other valuable contributions to the medical students via this program can email me at Stay up-to-date on Twitter at @forMD1 and #AMSAMentors.
