An intersting topic, I look forward to reading the sequels.

“Paul can indeed be mistaken about being happy!”

I don’t think your conclusion in this paragraph is at all justified. Paul’s situation is sufficiently ordinary that there’s even an appropriate aphorism: “Ignorance is bliss.” Now, once that ignorance comes to an end, Paul will in all likelihood be unhappy in his new knowledgeable state which includes the recognition that his prior happiness was a product of his prior ignorance. But if he gets hit by a bus before someone unfortunately enlightens him, undoubtedly he will die happy, and so I conclude he is in fact not wrong about being happy currently.
