In university, I had more than one math professor who would use the phrasing “observe” instead of “see”. e.g. “Observe how the eigenvectors are orthogonal [perpendicular]”. “Observe how the resulting matrix is symmetrical.” I liked it (because although I’m not sure I’m aphantasic exactly, I am not very visually oriented) but I always thought it was just a quirk of language (English was often not their first language), or an affectation. Maybe they too “saw” things more abstractly and less visually.
