BlackBerry PGP Cracked

With all the stories breaking on BlackBerry PGP recently It now appears that PGP emails going through the BlackBerry infrastructure are being decrypted in Canada.

With the UK and European authorities now going directly to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to decrypt PGP emails, which recently resulted in the conviction of two men for importation and firearms offences.

Reading between the lines here, It makes sense that BlackBerry who are working alongside the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have the ability to open PGP emails at the source, this is either done by storing a copy of the PGP key when originally created on the device or Blackberry have another method to decrypted emails that enter through there servers in Canada.

One of the largest PGP providers Ennetcom has recently been shut down as a suspect of providing communication means for groups involved in “high level” organised crime. Ennetcom based in Holland have been closed down and the owner arrested, there servers have been taken in both Holland and in Canada (This can only be a BlackBerry server that Ennetcom where using) with this server information in the hands of the authorities we should expect to hear more on this information very soon (See my blog post on “Ennetcom what is really happening”)

We also have the NFI in Holland stating they can decrypt messages in January this year (2016) with the help of IT forensic company CELLEBRITE, who have developed software & specialist hardware that allows them to access information directly from a device that was not though possible through traditional methods.

This effectively renders both Blackberry servers and BlackBerry devices as unsafe for secure communications.
