FOLLOW YOUR HEART?

Bad Advice, or The Worst Advice?

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. — Proverbs 16:25
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? — Jeremiah 17:9

“Follow your heart.” It’s a common thing to hear in our culture. In fact, most of us have probably given this advice to someone at some point.

But this is radically different from what the bible teaches. Our hearts are hard, broken, marred by sin, and filled with selfishness.

As we follow Jesus, he replaces our hearts of stone with hearts of flesh. (Ezekiel 36:26) But this takes time. In fact, you will basically have to wrestle with your old, stony heart until the day you die (1 Jn 3:2).

So, in the meantime, don’t just “follow your heart,” instead, follow Jesus.
