Chapter 22 | Years with Astrid: A Novella by Lucy Monday

It would be absurd for her to come up with such a baseless assumption — but it has always been in Elisse’s mind since that moment in the restaurant. Was that little boy Noah’s? And was that woman.. the one she has been wondering about all these years?

There wouldn’t be anyone else to talk to about this, instead of Noah. They are married, after all, they have been together for so long.. For sure, this is something they should be able to talk about calmly. And no matter what the truth is, this should be something they’d be able to get past through.. Hopefully.

Elisse asked Noah, direct to the point, with a very calm tone. She wouldn’t want to start it with yelling, nothing ever comes good when they find themselves both yelling. The first question she asked was about the woman in the restaurant. She asked him if he recognized her — he said, “What woman? We’ve all been staring at that dancing kid.” Then, she asked about the kid. If he noticed that the kid looked so much like him, if it’s possible that the kid was his.. And he laughed, “Are you crazy? A random kid in a restaurant that could possibly be mine? Look, just because we both look good, doesn’t mean we have the same genes.” He carried on laughing.. And Elisse started wondering the same thing, were her assumptions crazy?

Did she imagine everything that evening?
