Black Forest &Bonfires
A few weekends ago, we took a trip to Maik’s hometown to visit his family. We also attended one of Maik’s friends birthday parties while we were in town. The birthday party was a lot of fun, it consisted of Maik’s hometown friends, a lot of which I had met a few times before and all very friendly. The party was in the Black Forest at a small cabin and some of the people there ended up camping there for the night. The bonfire was nice and reminded me of nights back home. Being that far out from the city was really nice too, because when you would look up the stars would light up the entire sky.
I also had the opportunity to meet all of Maik’s family over that weekend. All of which know hardly any English and although I didn’t say much around them, they all seem to really like me. It’s also nice being able to understand more of what they’re saying now than when I first visited his parents.

I remember when I first visited his parents in 2013, they kept giving Maik suggestions on where to take me and what to show me. This year, his family drove him and I into the Black Forest and took us on a little adventure. They took us to see the Linach Dam, the Shonach Ski Slope, the World’s largest Coo-coo Clock and to Triberg for some authentic Black Forest Cake. The views were breathtaking and the air smelled so fresh.

When we arrived back in Darmstadt we had a lot to do. Maik is still in school (which ends before our trip to Amsterdam) and he just started his job in a Buro with a private architecture firm. While Maik has been busy with school and work, I had to go to the Foreigner’s Office to take care of a few things. Although it shouldn’t have taken long, it ended up taking me a few days to get things figured out.
Getting a work visa has been exhausting here considering my degree doesn’t specialize me into anything specific, that makes it more difficult. if you heard that I already was offered a job opportunity, I was, but unfortunately it didn’t qualify for my work visa. So taking a few days to get things figured out at the foreigner’s office was consisting of cancelling our appointment in October for my application towards a work visa. This of course has put us in a situation to readdress our circumstances, which is still in process.
It’s definitely been awhile since my last post and for that I apologize, but not much has been going on since we arrived back from visiting his family in Schwenningen. My days don’t consist of much since I’m not working, but it’s been nice to have a vacation away from working all the time and being able to spend time with Maik.
It’s always a bit frustrating when things don’t go the way we try so hard to plan them, but regardless, everything does happen for a reason. I think just being here and trying to figure out what needs to be done has given both of us a better understanding of what it’s going to take to be together, one way or the other. We still have a lot to figure out and taking things day by day is all we can do.
Thank you always for all the love and support. ❤
