For my first post I wanted to do a somewhat short intro to explain a little bit more about me, my story and where I believe it’s going. As everyone knows, sometimes your own personal plans don’t pan out the way you intend. That’s part of why I decided to write. By no means have I ever thought writing was one of my strong-suits so hang in there if you’re following along.

I’m 24 years old and from a town called Terre Haute in Indiana, that’s where my story begins. I’m leaving for Germany in less than 20 days. Maybe you’ll need a little more background to understand all the questions that come along with that statement. All you need to know for now is that I’m leaving my home country and taking myself to a whole new world. I’ve studied abroad before a few times so I have an idea of what to expect, but this time I’m mostly on my own (with help from the boyfriend& support from my friends &family). I’m not quite sure how long I will be gone for or if this adventure will be completely what I’m expecting, but I can’t tell you enough how excited and terrified I am at the same time.

I decided to start this blog to allow family and friends to follow along with my adventures, but why stop there? Throughout my life and choices I always found it helpful to read about other peoples experiences, especially when I decided to move out of the country. There’s not a handbook that states what to do first or what steps to follow for everything. The only way to truly know how to do something is to get all the advice from others that you can (whether you listen to it or not) and just go for it.

For those reading and wondering this whole time what my blog name means.. I wanted to pick something with purpose. I’ve tried blogging before, but I feel like if you have something behind whatever you’re writing about, it gives you a certain type of motivation. I got so deeply invested into deciding on a name that I was looking up blogs on “how to pick a blog name”.. crazy right? ..but behind anything we do there’s usually a reason.

Forge: to form or make, especially by concentrated effort.

Burrow: shelter, refuge- to make a hole or passage in, into, or under something.

To myself, this blog is about a journey. It’s about adventure and experience. It’s about helping those who are reading it. Whether it be advice, a project, a recipe or even to just get your imagination sparked.

Forge&Burrow is a journey that’s well worked for and the whole purpose of it is to be able to look back and to see where we came from, where we started. I look forward to the unknown more than I used to. I learn something new from myself every day. I’m working hard for my future and I’m starting here.
