The ride back to the city proper was uncomfortably silent as they wound their way through the twists and turns. Once they had reached the straightaways, Bronski cleared his throat.
Ames hadn’t been thinking about anything in particular. The blurring landscape flashing past her window matched her mind perfectly. She had never felt her mind racing so quickly, but not able to hold onto a single point.
“So it sounds like you made a good impression on Jordan.” He looked at her awkwardly trying to keep his eyes on the road. If she didn’t know any better, she might have thought he was concerned for her.
Ames shrugged, “I suppose I did.”
“Considering how he usually responds to my partners. I would say more than that.”
Ames looked up, eyes lighting up with curiosity, “Really? How does he usually react?”
Bronski coughed, “I am pretty sure he lets them get injured or dead.”
“Didn’t you report him?”
