A sweet, familiar fragrance filled the air, and Bronski couldn’t hide the smile.

The cool breeze blowing through the trees created shifting patterns as if the leaves were dancing in the lights of the walkways.

He struggled to remember, ‘Now where was she again?’

Even as he was struggling to distinguish her among the playfull shadows of the park, he heard her melodious laughter ringing through the night air.

She was behind him, of course. He turned around, reaching for her, and…

Sat up in bed with cold sweat dripping on his face. Bronski gasped for breath as the dream vanished like puffs of perfume.

Perfume.

The word stuck to Bronski’s brain for some odd reason. He felt as if there was laughter echoing in his mind.

But it wasn’t laughter. It was the phone ringing.

He sighed.

He reached down and snatched the phone up, answering it with an exhausted familiarity, “Hello…”
