I would like to offer a word of caution for those who believe they are inoculating themselves against false narratives by avoiding the mass media infotainment news. Realize that the false narratives pushed by the corporate elites are embedded in all corporatist media. Of course, commercials are efforts to manipulate the public’s perception of reality, generally in regards to a particular product, but the business elites have long known that embedding their sales pitch within other kinds of media, or “product placement”, is a far more effective approach to selling that product. It slips the product messaging in below the victims’ radar, so to speak. As Caitlin pointed out above, the business elites’ narratives are the most important products that they have to sell the population on, and so you can count on everything they invest in reinforcing those narratives in one way or another. This is to say that every sitcom, every reality TV show, every documentary that the corporate elites finance is ultimately just a vehicle for the narratives justifying their hegemony.
