Here is a quick guide to how I have my camera currently set up (May 7, 2018) without going through every single menu. If I didn’tt mention it here it’s probably factory settings. Obviously I tweaked the diopter to my vision. Hope this helps a little with setting up your camera, I know it can be a stressful experience if you are not familiar with Canon or just need to get up and running fast. As always, let me know what you think and any reccomendations.

  • I always shoot my camera in Manual
  • Image Quality — RAW
  • Dual Pixel — Disable
  • Beep — Enable
  • Release Shutter Without Card — Off (never want to shoot and think you’re loaded)
  • Auto Light Optimizer — Off
  • Custom White Balance — 5200K
  • Color Space — sRGB
  • Picture Style — Standard
  • Long Exp Noise Reduction — Off
  • High ISO Speed NR — Low
  • Highlight Tone Priority — Off
  • AF-assist Beam Firing — On
  • Selectable AF Point — All Points
  • Select AF Area Selec Mode — Manual Select : Spot AF
  • AF Point Display During Focus — Selected Constant
  • VF Display Illumination — On
  • LCD Brightness — Manual @ 4
  • Exposure Level Increments — 1/3
  • ISO Speed Setting Increments — 1/3
  • Custom Controls — Direction Tool to auto Focus Area Select
