Great article Dr Bansal! …it’s refreshing to be reminded that there are doctors out there who understand that nutrition is at the heart of good health, and how outrageous and ludicrous is the self-perpetuating cycle of treating the symptoms of poor nutrition with drugs, and then using yet more drugs to control the side effects of those drugs.
As well as the obesity and type 2 diabetes mentioned in the article, I’d go further, and suggest that diet is at the heart of all of our modern chronic diseases including coronary heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias, and many mental health conditions.
The irony of course (which makes doctors such as Dr Bansal particularly deserving of praise), is that since the 50’s doctors have been complicit with the other ‘experts’ and government advisory bodies who have promoted the high carb low fat diet — along with the substitution of all saturated fats with highly-processed vegetable oils — that is the cause of our current health crisis.
However, Dr Bansal’s reference to cholesterol suggests that — like most doctors — he is clearly unaware that the theory that high levels of dietary fats and cholesterol raise cholesterol levels in the blood which leads to heart disease — has now been totally discredited.
For those who doubt this — and believe that if most doctors believe it, it must be true (after all, they all up with the latest scientific research, surely?), I recommend you read the brilliant book “Doctoring Data”, by Dr. Malcolm Kendrick. It is essential reading for every doctor, every medical student, and anyone interested in taking responsibility for their own health, and shows how (as John Wortley says below), we are being “hoodwinked” — by powerful global financial interests, with most doctors (who lack Dr Bansal’s and Dr Kendrick’s courage) complicit in advancing the multi-billion dollar agenda of big pharma and big food.
Thank you Dr Bansal! (And please, do read “Doctoring Data”)
