Georgia Government Transparency and Finance Commission announces fines against Commissioner Todd Levent at their September meeting

Beleaguered Forsyth County Commissioner Todd Levent has been issued multiple fines by the Georgia Government Transparency and Finance Commission for failing to disclose his personal financial interests and campaign expenditures as required by law.

Not to be confused with the ethics complaint filed against Levent at the County level which followed a censure of Levent from the Board of Commissioners, the first censure of a Board member in County history, the State level complaint was filed after the State Commission opened an investigation into Levent.

Levent failed to disclose his personal financial interests as required by law. The purpose of law is to provide transparency into potential conflicts of interest by elected officials. Without this information, voters are in the dark about potential conflicts and special interests.

Robert Lane, Deputy Executive Director and General Counsel for the Commission, read a consent agreement and stated the State and Levent agreed he had not followed the law. Lane also stated Levent failed to report hundreds of dollars of expenditures as required by law on both his January and April 2022 report. Records show Levent has had similar violations and fines in the past, and even signed documents stating he would follow the law in the future, something he failed to do.

Lane announced a late fee of $125 and civil penalty of $375.

Forsyth Homeowners will update this article when the consent agreement is available on the State website.
