Just Skimming the Surface
Your New Year’s Resolution —December 30, 2013
How many of you are taking the New Year’s pledge (along with half of your coworkers, your next door neighbor, your best friend, and that random cashier you chatted up last week) to live a healthier lifestyle? You’re going to work out at least 3 times a week, stop drinking soda and eating fast food, and pledge to eat your daily greens. Or maybe, you’re going to try one of those new “fad” diets that everyone’s raving about; like going gluten-free, vegan, or attempting a juice cleanse.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but only about 1% of you are actually going to succeed at maintaining these resolutions. As for the rest of you, life is, unfortunately, going to get in the way. And healthy eating and exercise is really just skimming the surface of a healthy lifestyle anyway.
But, for all you weary wanderers I have a solution! Alas, a New Year’s resolution that is easy and still allows you to incorporate a healthier living pledge into your everyday life.
What exactly is Surface you ask?
Surface is high performance, salon exclusive hair care that respects personal health and the earth. Surface is 100% organic, gluten-free, vegan, sulfate free, paraben free, chemical free, and carcinogen free. They even go a step further and use all recycled bottles and containers. Plus, Surface donates 10% of all purchases to World Vision, a charity that helps families in third world countries find clean drinking water, maintain personal hygiene, and educates their community on ways to become self-sustaining.
Did you know that anything that touches your skin is absorbed in a mere 27 seconds? This means that your shampoo, conditioner, styling products, body wash, and lotion are all entering your bodies internal systems.
Have you ever thought about what’s in your current products? Look at the back of your shampoo bottle. The first ingredient is likely water and the second a substance known as Sodium Laureth Sulfate or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. This is a very inexpensive detergent/foaming agent and is a very common skin irritant to humans and animals. It is often used in high doses to strip paint off of automobiles. The U.S Food and Drug Administration have found a byproduct of these sulfates to be Dioxane. Dioxane is a known carcinogen and has been found to cause cancer in many studies.
You are probably wondering why this chemical is in your shampoo. It’s job is to strip anything and everything out of your hair, from oils to dirt to your styling products, leaving a super squeaky, clean feeling. Not only is this damaging to hair, but it also empties down our drains and can contaminate our ground water.
Many styling products on the market, have some even nastier ingredients; such as polyvinylpyrrolidone, also known as PVP. This is a clear, synthetic adhesive, often found in electronics, metals, and paper products. Also, commonly found in hairsprays and hair gels, this chemical becomes airborne and is unintentionally inhaled by users, as it lingers in the air.
The list of gross stuff found in hair and body products goes on and on. We can give you a very educational lesson on this next time you are in our salon.
My ultimate proposal for you in 2014 is to pledge a New Year’s resolution that you can be very excited about and easily keep. Switching your hair care and body care to Surface is a great place to start. Not only is it an affordable resolution (you’re already purchasing shampoo, body lotion, and styling products anyway, right?) but with just one use I can guarantee that your hair will look noticeably different. More manageable, shinier, just all around better! And you will be cutting out many chemicals and carcinogens that your body is absorbing daily. Your body will thank you and your skin and hair will not only look amazing, it will be amazing!
Finally, something you can truely feel good about mentally and physically. Why not make your New Year’s resolution a pledge to switch to Surface? What do you have to lose except the extra ick in your life?
