Who is your favorite natural hair care brand? Why do you like them? Perhaps you like the way the product smells and how it makes your hair look. You may even like the packaging. Do you seek out black-owned hair brands? However, if you are assuming that a company is black-owned because they cater to black customers, you could be wrong. Even though more black owned hair and skin care lines are popping up, the majority of those around for years are not currently black owned.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with using products from non-black owned brands if you like the way they treat your hair. We all know how hard it is to find that right product, and no way are we telling you to start that long search all over again.

Still, if purchasing from black-owned companies is important to you, you should know the ones that are black owned, or disguising themselves. Companies do a very good job in marketing to African-Americans. You may find that companies that cater to black people but aren’t black owned tend to be tight-lipped about their true ownership. If you want to know the truth, you’ll have to dig a little deeper to find the ones that are and aren’t. Many of these companies were founded by blacks, but later sold to larger, faceless corporations.
