Is AI Art A Threat to Traditional Artists?
Artificial intelligence has been infiltrating every industry, and the art world is no exception. From generative music to AI-created films, it seems that there’s nothing that machines can’t do these days. But are AI-created artworks threatening artists who create traditional works by hand? Let’s take a closer look.
How Is AI Art Created?
There are a variety of software programs that artists can use to create AI art. Some of the more popular ones are Stable Diffusion, Dalle, and Midjourney. I have had so much fun playing with the different programs and exploring the different algorithms. I became interested a few months ago after watching some videos on YouTube. I got on the Dalle2 waitlist and was approved about two weeks later. However, while waiting for Dalle, I joined Midjourney and fell in love. The user types in a prompt such as “a bowl of soup that is also a portal to another dimension, digital art.” You press enter and get your result.
The systems are constantly improving. You will never get the same result twice. Initial images are usually rough, and users can continue refining them to their liking.
