Day 82: Create Fog in Unity
Objective: Add fog to my test tubes in my scene using HDRP.
So Unity really is pushing using the VFX built into the system, however, we can cheat this with the fog we already have by turning it into a sprite.
So I went to the fog material (smoke) and turned it shader to Sprite/Default. I then clicked on the tint and changed its color to a greenish tint, and moved its alpha channel to 5. So it went from this:
So we have a light greenish color haze coming off of the test tubes instead of a heavy, we are walking through a spooky swamp look.
Here I just adjusted some of the settings so that it starts larger, moves faster, and enlarges faster as well. I then carefully placed it in the correct place.
Now to highlight the fog, I added some point lights, and connected the fog to my Global Volume.
So in the Global Volume I clicked Add Override and went to Fog. then I Enabled it, turned on Fog Attenuation, and Volumetric Fog. I then adjusted the Fog Attenuation to 20.
Now I added 4 point lights and placed them around the fog.
Then for each light I adjusted its range and intensity.
These lights are to help bring out the fog that is there so without the lights it looks like this:
And with the lights it looks like this:
A subtle difference, but those can sometimes make all the difference.
Well, that is all I have.
Thanks for reading.
