Road To 1K — Day 2— Restream.io Opens Up Streaming To The Multiverse
Here on Day 2 of the Road to 1K on YouTube a new live streaming video platform challenger appears. Doing homework (well watching YouTube while I do other things) I heard MundaneMatt speaking about a great way to stream to multiple different platforms at the same time.
His suggestion Restream.io

I’m just using the free plan at moment while I learn the ins and outs of how to make this relevant to what I’m doing which for now is just great. If you already have OBS (Open Broadcaster Studio) on your PC then you can use a custom RPC just like you would with Twitch or other Live Streaming Platforms to connect them up. That may be a little too advanced for today though and takes away from the real plus of this cloud service.
That is the integration and ease of connecting up the various platforms you already use like Periscope, Twitch and YouTube. Simply go to Add Channel and you are presented with the screen below.
Once you’ve added your channel and logged in via Google, Twitch, Twitter etc then you can either stream live from that PC or use the RTMP Url and Stream Key to start streaming to all of your selected platforms straight away. Which is crazy, but then that isn’t the best part.

I have been using the Webchat on my Chromebook as I work out the nuts and bolts of the service which has been working great by the way. If you prefer there is a separate application you can download to your PC. You can get your own link by clicking the webchat window to engage with all of your audience in one place. You could even have this as webstream overlay in OBS to put this chat box on screen.
You also have the option to change the titles of your videos all in one go from the “Titles” section of the Restream.io Dashboard. I have named them by going to edit so I can have the correct hashtags etc for each of the platforms.
Now to get your stream to Restream.io to stream out to the other services you will need to send it to the Restream servers. The easiest way if you already have a PC based setup is to use the RTMP URL and Stream Key from the Restream.io Dashboard. You will have to pick the closest RTMP URL to your location from the dropdown menu first. Copy and paste these to make sure that you get them right as even one letter will keep that monitor window OFFLINE.
Once that says ONLINE. You will be streaming LIVE so be ready. Now remember this will work for PC streaming but I have been doing this on my Android Phone as the camera.
Using an Android Phone you can install BitStream from the Play Store and add the RTMP Url and Stream Key by clicking the RTMP Server option.
Once it’s connected you’re LIVE.
By using this method I was able to stream to Periscope, Twitch and YouTube Live at the same time earlier today while keeping an eye of the chat from all of them at the same time. This didn’t look the best on all of the services but it did go live to all of them and I still have some of the settings to optimise.
