Prepare for launch!

Fragments OCR
Nov 5 · 4 min read

As the traction ramps back up and the app nears official launch, it is exciting and thrilling to prepare Fragments for official launch and release it to the App Store. The OCR app is finally in a state where I feel it is ready for production use so that many people can use it in their day to day lives. Please continue to read below about the progress made recently in Fragments and next steps.

App Store Screenshots

App store screenshots used to show app functionality

Above are the final screens being used in the App Store. These are subject to change in the future, but the screens shown provide a good feeling for anyone downloading the app — what they are using is of high quality, and will work, simply put. Highlighted are some of the key features — the speed and ease of using Fragments as an OCR scanner, uploading from multiple sources, some of the text capability functions, and auto sync.

Plans

The various plans and what they offer

Here are the available options — charging a flat fee for the app on the App Store was a solution that was thought about, however, this limits people who do not wish to pay for the app, or would like to try it outright before committing to buying the app. Also, instead of a free and paid option, it was determined that the best option would be to have multiple plans to choose from.

The available plans are flexible and lets you decide what you need. Are you only going to be using this app once in a while? The free or light plans may be the best fit. Are you going the be frequently using this app every day, as part of your job or your schooling? The Super User plan would be a better fit. Pro is a middle-tier option that suits the majority of people using Fragments, which is why it is also valued as the best plan out of the four.

New Features and Enhancements

Various enhancements and feature adds

Enhancing the usability and user experience was the main goal in the past few iterations of development. Adding friendly graphics and ensuring styles are consistent makes the app easy and fun to use.

The following features are currently available for each text fragment that is scanned by the OCR tool — Edit, Copy to clipboard, Share, Search on Google, and delete. These are the core actions that made the most sense per user testing, however, expect more features to come in the future as user feedback is evaluated.

Website UI Update

The main app page
Please note — the privacy policy and terms of use have been added to the footer

The privacy policy and terms of use/EULA have been added to the footer of the site. Also, the site has been overhauled and restyled, so please feel free to read through it if you are curious as to why Fragments OCR is a useful and powerful app.

Additionally, the main web app (seen in the first screenshot) has been revamped and restyled to provide a more consistent layout, very similar to how the iOS app is built. The goal for launch was not to incorporate features into the web app, but rather the mobile app. This is because the web app serves as a point of reference (a.k.a, to copy/paste and export text), rather than a full fragment manipulation tool, such as the app.

The site remains the same: fragmentsocr.com.

Next Steps

Be excited! Fragments OCR is in review currently, and the latest build will be released to the App Store as soon as it is reviewed and approved. Fragments is supported on recent iOS versions and available to all countries. You can always keep up to date on the social media accounts, this blog, or by subscribing to the newsletter (found on the website).

I encourage you to download Fragments OCR and give it a shot — like stated, the app is free to try indefinitely and will make your life much easier. With that said, any feedback or suggestions are highly appreciated. Please feel free to send an email to fragments.mobile@gmail.com, submit a review to the App Store, or reach out directly via Twitter or Facebook.
