Ask Ethan: Does dark energy mean we’re losing information about the Universe?

Syfi story idea... A massively advanced race with a billion years of history, has a massive device they have build for observing their information as it tumbles into a small black hole to be stored until the last star goes out (they even moved the black hole to where they wanted it to be, don’t ask me how). It is the ultimate in data compression. They treat the permanent storage of their information in the same way we might treat a funeral, with sadness for the departed and joy that they are moved on to a better place for all eternity. Families come to commune with past loved ones. Historians and scientists come collect data for their works. They all observe the photons of the past as they fall endlessly toward forever.
