Gap Year Day 123

Today I woke up at what has become my usual time (a little after 6:30am) and had some yogurt with banana and granola, along with a deliciously moist date with peanut butter:)

I went for a little walk before heading to the lab which was nice because the beginning of the day was gorgeous.

Palm trees & mountains
The water is incredibly calm here

I had another typical day at the lab, although, I forget to mention that it’s Halloween! Happy Halloween! Only one woman in the lab dressed up, but she was very into the Halloween spirit, so she inspired someone to play a Halloween music soundtrack over the speaker in the lab for most of the day haha. We heard a couple rounds of Thriller and This is Halloween:)

This is my little “desk” space and my microscope that I get to look into all day! You can see my two forceps on either side, the petri dish on top of the light, my tow sample container in the back left, and the bottle of ethanol to the right of the tow sample.
Here’s a more up-close view of the petri dish that has some of the tow sample in it. As you can see, there’s a lot of stringy white stuff that makes it hard to find & pull out the fish eggs, larvae, and plastic. It’s also a bit smelly! But it’s amazing to see how much stuff is in this tiny petri dish…our eyes miss seeing this whole other world! (Except when you have a microscope!)

I was going to go out in the boat again today to take more water samples but we got rained out. It really poured for awhile and there was thunder too. Luckily I got out of the lab a little early though, around 3:15pm, so I got to talk to Mom and Dad before they went to bed! I miss them a lot, so it helped to talk with them.

Now I’m just hanging in my dorm and I’ve got to plan my day tomorrow because Cassie isn’t coming in so I’ve got the day off as well!

A daily blog/journal of my gap year adventures.
