Has it ever occurred to anyone, that just because someone knows their own interests best, doesn’t mean necessarily that they know it well?
And, so what if they don’t?
Whether I have a clue at any given moment what may be truly in my interest or not, I take it as a rule that I still know more about what that might be than anyone else does. I might be absolutely in the dark on what is in my best interest, but in no way does this postulate that it is anyone else’s business to determine that for me. And I damn sure won’t be compelled to submit to anyone else’s version of my best interest just because they disapprove of mine.
Another term for the concept, is liberty.
This is what I hate about all these high-handed discussions online about god-damn social policy and what according to one person ought to be how the whole damn world is run: what makes this “society” anybody’s business?
I say mind your own, as a start. What may or may not be best for anybody else is just none of your lookout.
