Single-issue political clubs remind me of chiropractors: not only do they have the cure for everything, but also are convinced that everyone everywhere has the ailments they demand the right to step in and cure.

In other words, once again, I’m telling some gun-hating, militia-baiting, pontificating peacenik who is so fearful he or she doesn’t even write under his or her own name (“coalition”? Right. I’m thinking more like, “blogger and a couple of college pals…”), that I have known and been among gun owners and (gasp) NRA members all my life, and that yes, a handful of them like to indulge in their bloated rhetoric every bit as much as those who call the President a “fascist” do, that even those closest to them hardly take it seriously, and that among the hundreds and hundreds of legal arms-bearers throughout my life, not one has shot, nor been shot at by, anyone, nor has it in mind to create the circumstances where this is the only possible outcome. “We don’t call 911” houses tend not to be the ones that get broken into in the first place, while your “gun-free zones” tend to get turned into free-fire ones on a fairly regular basis.

You don’t like guns? Then don’t own one. You don’t like places where this “gun violence” is commonplace? Then don’t live there. In all the places I’ve lived all over these United States in over fifty years, by far the most orderly, polite and peaceful settings, have been where it was a safe bet that anyone or even everyone has (lawful) firearms and knows how to use them.

But that doesn’t fulfill your fantasy narrative of the ailment only your set has the cure for, does it? I say, become a chiropractor. They tend to get taken more seriously that some of the other, less lucrative, forms of world-savery.
