Welcome to Denunciation Culture. The key to surviving it, is not to give weight to denunciations and denouncers, that they don’t deserve.
I continue to wonder where the composure and dignity went, in people who have been denounced and so gleefully hop right into the trap, by trying to explain themselves.
The false key to trying to stay a step ahead of Denunciation Culture, is to denounce someone else first, or alternatively to counter-denounce one’s denouncers as an answer to them. Maybe that will keep one out of the pop-culture gulag, maybe it won’t.
When I studied journalism in college (briefly) one of the units was on libel and slander and defamation. The bedrock understanding, was that there are different rules regarding “public figures” than there are for the odd individual who is brought under the light of denunciation solely for the purpose of denouncing them.
I expect our esteemed Professor knew this, when he decided to become a public figure.
Welcome to Denunciation Culture, and too bad for the professor, that he had, just like our good Comrade Google Engineer of instant “manifesto” infamy, volunteered for it. May it not destroy him, though the indications are not good.
Playing chicken with runaway freight trains, simply is what it is.
