My story behind pink. Pinky Kinky UI Design.

I used to grow up with a lot of dark tones in my own little bubble, but during high-school I had colleagues wearing pink t-shirts. I never had a specific problem with pink, but rather any intense color. I was associating those vivid colors with kitsch, simply because it used to catch my attention and distract me from observing the general image. On the other side, in the nature habitat, the intense colors are very often signs of being in danger.

Pink is the color that sells, that’s for sure! You can find it anywhere, from freshly renovated buildings to toys for 2-years-olds, but this doesn’t make it less kitschy. The tendency of overusing a color make the world around it to look fake. Or maybe the lack of good design…

One more thing, before showing off my pinky kinky UI design(it almost sounds porno), but bare with me. I truly believe the game of capitalism f****ed up good designs. The obsession of buying more with less engraved so hard in our behaviors, that we most often cut from the parts that are supposed to make us happy. The art of consumerism made us buy a brown shit in a fancy-glossy pink box engraved with Comic Sans MS. And that, my friends, I call kitsch!

Leave the shit as it is, brown and dirty!

So, I was challenging myself to see if overusing pink can lead to a pleasing design. And it does!

As part of DailyUI Challenge, I had to design a Checkout Page and I made this:

There are many ways pink can be part of outstanding designs, and now I can see them much better. Forcing myself to work with something I used to disagree with, can give new perspectives about the way those colors can carefully be inserted in our life.

This might be too radical from what I wrote few lines above, but I like this design quite a lot. It makes me feel fresh and that’s mostly because of the gradient. From pink to light pink. Let me show you what I mean:

This gradient

This was one reason to create something new and see what I can create from elements unfamiliar to my eye.

Thank you for taking the time to get through this and I hope you enjoyed it!

All the best!
