Fat removal (Liposuction) can be done using different methods.

These methods are mostly according to how the fat cells are broken up and removed, and they include:

Tumescent Liposuction is also called traditional liposuction.

Your surgeon liquefies the fat tissues using a solution called Tumescent which also helps minimize bleeding and discomfort. Then a thin tube is used to break up the fat tissue and suck it away.

Pros

Reduced bleeding and bruising and its effectiveness for most concerns makes it the standard.

Smartlipo®

Also known as laser-assisted liposuction (LAL)

Here, laser energy is used to liquefy fat tissues. The tube or cannula used to suck the fat tissue contains a laser tip that heats and breaks up fat cells while minimizing your risk of bleeding or bruising.

Pros

Precision, minimized bleeding, and the heat generated can stimulate collagen leading to minor skin tightening.

This method is good for muscle etching and contouring small, precise areas.

VASER Liposuction

VASER stands for vibration amplification of sound energy at resonance.

It is a form of ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL), which breaks up fat tissue using ultrasound energy.

Pros

Because this energy is targeted only at fat tissue, it causes fewer disturbances to blood vessels and other tissues in the area.

Water-assisted liposuction uses a pressurized stream of saline to loosen fat cells.

Which type should you go for?

After you have discussed the result you are looking to achieve with your surgeon, you will work together to provide a customized treatment plan suitable for you.
