Trend of the Week- The Rebellious Rise of Re-Selling
You’re on Vinted, I’m on Vinted, we’re all on Vinted…or Depop or any of the other gigantic re-selling apps dominating the fashion spheres. So what does this mean? This week I’m going to take a deep dive…
The Boom
We’re currently living through turbulent times. With this instability, we’re turning to new ways to shop, moving away from fast fashion and the dawning of a circular economy boom.
The app Vinted is a shining light compared to its competitor fast fashion apps, with their upped prices and ‘out of stocks’. Yes, the garments are pre-loved, but you can go get yourself a nice designer bag for half the price…
There’s also the thrill of the unexpected, while browsing on these apps you’ll come across garments that you’d have never considered in a million years. But as it’s only a fiver why not?!
Now, we need to talk about sustainability here. The new generations are waaaay more concerned with how fashion is contributing to the ever-present climate crisis. Therefore our new norm is, if you’re not wearing it- somebody else should be. It’s win-win really, you help the environment and gain some dollar.
How is this gonna change the game?
What will come out of the re-selling boom is a move back to good quality designer items, over fast next-day delivered poorly made garments. Ushering in a new generation of fashion-minded individuals that value quality over quantity. Additionally, the randomness of the clothing being sold will unlock a more rebellious and interesting fashion scene. Ultimately, the overindulgence of the last ten years is being put on hold, maybe for good; welcome to the era of non-consumptive efficient fashion buyers.
