21'st CENTURY LITERATURE

21’st Century Literature refers to new literary work created within the last decade. It is written by contemporary authors which may deal with current theme/ issues and reflect a technological culture. It often breaks traditional writing rules. Manga, Doodle Fiction and Graphic Novel are some examples of literary genres that evolved as time passed by.

MANGA

Manga is an umbrella term for a wide variety of comic books originally produced and published in Japan. Manga is often printed/illustrated with almost black and white. Japanese manga is read from right to left. The term “mangaka” is used to describe the author/person who creates a manga.

DOODLE FICTION

A literary presentation where the author incorporates doodle drawings and hand written graphics in place of traditional font. Drawings enhance the story, often adding humorous elements that would be missing if the illustrations were omitted.

GRAPHIC NOVEL

It features the use of graphic art, but in a narrative form, using the pictures to tell as story in much the same was as does a film.

DIFFERENCES

IN TERMS OF STRUCTURE

Doodle Fiction is often created to give entertainment and fun to most young readers. It is a humorous comic books. While manga and Graphic novels, have different arc’s, side stories as well as they have general flow of the story. Both of which have panels to separate a scene from another scene. While Doodle Fiction show both text and pictures in a way like articles are written since it follows a novel or story book type.

IN TERMS OF ELEMENTS

Most Common differences in terms of elements are the narration and art style. When it comes to illustration , Manga uses Japanese art style and it is read from left to right. The elements from Manga are always pertain to Japanese culture, people, environment and behavior. Doodle Fiction, use handwritten elements to write its text and drawings. Graphic novels use a very Americanized art style in drawing the comic, and must be read from left to right.

SIMILARITIES

They are created in artistic and storytelling style to show a particular stories. They are incorporated with drawings or graphics and words to illustrate a story. And all three genres are from 21st Century.
