Most writers don’t wake up every morning thinking about what they can do to make the most money possible on this platform through their writing. However, most of us wouldn't mind making a bit of extra income on the side from our writing (or in some cases much more than a bit). In order to make money on Medium we need to meet two requirements. We need to have:

  1. At least 100 followers
  2. Have published at least one story on here

Because it can be quite difficult to reach that first 100 followers writers take up a variety of tactics to try and reach that mark. Some jump on following trains to try and expedite the process, and others stick to building up their following by writing constantly and building up true fans. I tried the first method. I wrote an article asking for followers and here is what I learned from that experience.

You Will Gain Followers FAST

I think I hit my goal of 100 followers a few hours after publishing my article asking other writers to follow me. By the end of the week I had around 600 followers. Obviously I was over the moon.

You Will Probably Get Hate From Other Writers
